OCC: for a complete overview of the events in the Greyhawk Wars, I recommend that you guys go to the information thread and take some time to go over the detailed posts I made describing the events in the war.

11 years later. . .

Much of the 11 years that has passed for the hallowed circle was spent without their beloved leader Lord Magnus Azreil Mordent. Shortly after Mona’s arrival, trouble started brewing within the city of Greyhawk and as things progressed and tension built war broke out several years later. Known as the “Greyhawk Wars” Magnus spent much of his time up until 584cy serving in an advisory capacity to many factions within the war itself and helping to defeat Iuz’s forces. Magnus’s service didn’t simply end with the war though, as the aftermath of the war was felt all over the Flanaess. Magnus continued to serve over much of the Flanaess helping to rebuild many of the homes, lives and countries that had suffered in the wake of the terrible wars. Magnus’s trips all over the Flanaess were not made alone as Red Wolf, Lord Silverkin and Selene Darksky accompanied him on many of his trips serving as his personal guard.

The Hallowed circle itself heard no more word from the events surrounding Mona and Camilla’s attempted capture. It seemed as if the events that happened that night had simply fallen to the way side and all was forgotten. The Circle continued its diligent defense of the city and quelled many threats to the city over the years. But the absence of the Magnus was felt hard and many within the circle believed that Magnus’s place was at home with his friends, but as always, trust in their beloved leader won out and the resentment gave way to the feelings of simply ‘missing’ their leader. So when word arrived that Magnus and the others were finally returning home, a feeling of completeness and wholeness once again swelled the groups pride.

Mona and her sister Camilla trained closely under the guidance of Damien. And as time went by and Mona grew in maturity and age, so did her sister Camilla as both came to grow close to each other and appreciate the bond that kin and sisters often feel. Camilla came to train as a monk and developed her skills quite well under his guidance. Camilla now 16 has just begun her arrival into true womanhood, with her sister by her side (Mona now 27), has also come to look upon her sister as not just a sister, but also a mother figure who has taken care of her well over the years. Mona, having spent much time with Magnus (before his departure and sometime during his absence as well, upon his short returns to the manor) has learned with time and patience to overcome the horrors of that night. She too has also come to view Magnus no longer as a second father, but a close personal friend. Along with that friendship has recently come a new set of mixed feeling for which she hasn’t known before. These feelings, while confusing and unaccustomed to her, have left her elated at the permanent return of Lord Magnus.

The door opened to the Manor, and for a moment as Magnus stepped through the door, it almost seemed as if he took in a breath. But to those who knew the man and the beast, such a thing for him wasn’t possible. It was however plain on the man’s face as he walked through the door for the first time in a long time that he was glad to be home. He had already brought his coffin into the dungeon and as it was daytime he was well covered and disguised quite well. But setting foot inside his own home he was finally able to remove the disguise of a cloak and hood and take in the well welcomed site of his beloved manor and his beloved team.

Magnus stepped out of the doorway and allowed Red Wolf, Silverkin, and Selene to enter in kind. As he stepped into the foyer he eyed Damien with care who lost no time in stepping up to him and extending his had.

Magnus took his hand, and the two exchanged glances as Damien was the first to break the silence.
“It’s good to have you home Sir. . .”
Magnus shook his head and rolled his eyes.
“How many times do I have to tell you Damien, its just Magnus.”
Damien shook his head and nodded to Redwolf, Selene and Silverkin they too entered the foyer without any delay.
“It’s good to have you all back. . .”

As the greetings are made to Lord Magnus and the rest, music is heard floating on the air from the ballroom. Mona is playing again and singing a song of love blossoming and growing between two lovers. Her voice is almost magical and fills the large house with a warmth that was missing before. When the front door closed the music stopped and Mona walked through the hallway joining the ballroom and the foyer to see who entered.

When she saw Lord Magnus, her wide grin lit up her face as the morning sun. "Magnus!" She ran straight to him and hugged him tightly. She had missed him but she hadn't realized how much until he had returned. After several moments, she blushed slightly and released him, hugging her father and kissing him on the cheek. Standing back she looked at Magnus again, unable to stop smiling, and said, "I'm glad you are back. I've missed you."

Magnus was surprised to say the least at the reception he had gotten from Mona, but it was pleasant and he smiled at the hug.
“It’s good to be missed” he said returning the hug.
Magnus actually took a step forward and before Mona had moved to hug her father gave Mona a soft kiss on the cheek. It didn’t go without notice to Mona that Magnus’s touch and his lips seemed cold.

Her father returned her hug and smiled at his daughter,
“It’s good to see you my dear.” He said wrapping his strong arms around her. The fact that Mona had rushed to hug Magnus first instead of him, was something that didn’t go without notice to Crunerios. He knew that look in his daughter’s eyes all too well. He lifted an eyebrow when he looked at his daughter. At first the thought of his daughter looking at Magnus in such a way was something that ran a cold chill of resentment down his spine. But the feeling quickly subsided when he the thought of ‘why not? Who better?’ did cross his mind.

Magnus looked at Redwolf then to Selene, he knew all to well that Mona had taken to caring for the children of the manor as a second mother in addition to raising her own sister. It was a fact he was proud of, and juding from the music he heard as he entered, her own ability in music was something that had been ever increasing.
“I see you have only gotten better with your musical talent.” He said looking to Mona. “I would very much enjoy a private concert when you have time later.” He said giving her a mild wink of his eye.

Mona shivered at Magnus' kiss, and her eyes lit up. It was a little weird getting a cold kiss from him, but she can't say she didn't like it.

Mona blushed a little more, and looked away as her father looked at her with his silent question. But when Magnus spoke of a private concert, Mona blushed deeply, and said in a suddenly shy small voice, "I would like that too." And Mona suddenly found she couldn't decide what to do with her hands and fidgeted while she avoided Magnus' eyes, but her smile never left her face.

Redwolf felt haggard and winded the past 11 years had been a marathon of preventing slaughter and destruction " I feel as if i should leave for a while and find some gladmaking mayhaps some stong ale and a equally strong wench to make time with or find some trouble with red-sripe fang !" " I know you night-walker would like to fence mend with our friends so i take my leave." and with that Redwolf headed for the low district to look for ale fights and song .

celine stood respectful of the return of the lord, Mordent looked a little tired and perhaps he was. The war would have meant that his talents were in demand and he would have been here there and everywhere, but now he was thankfully home and in one piece.

"Welcome back my lord, you have been sorely missed. We have managed without you but not having you at the helm so to speak was like driving an empty carriage". Celine was conscious of the people around her, but she was relieved as they were that their leader was back and that he was ok.

Weather: 47 degrees, temperature

Redwolf:

Redwolf proceeds to the ‘Purple Giant Inn and Tavern’ at the docks district. Although it is still only 10 oclock in the morning, Redwolf knows the Tavern will be open anyway. The Tavern is the only one in the city that virtually never closes. It is perhaps the most ir-reputable tavern in the entire city of Greyhawk. Brintar, the half-orc known for his intolerance of Halflings, owns and runs it in the downtown docks district. It is the location of a rather unusual clientele as well. Where only 5 women work at all times, only one of which serves as the barmaid at any given point and time. The other four women serve the customers with their own ‘unique’ talents, taking turns being the primary barmaid through the week. The Purple Giant is also known for its vilolence as well, where at least once a night / day a fight will break out almost guaranteed (sometimes more). Brintar never serves to break up the fights and in fact only encourages them all that much more. All of the women who work for Brintar (unless they are given time off) must be at the bar and common room at all times unless they are servicing customers. The Purple Giant is perhaps the best known ‘dive’ in all of Greyhawk.

Celine / Mona:
Magnus walked passed Redwolf and allowed the man to leave without any further word. He was all to aware that he needed the time off. For all of his services, Magnus couldn’t begrudge the man a bit of time around town after everything they had been through in the past few months. It had been a long road and the past week in particular had proven to be trying to say the least.

Magnus walked into the main Library as Celine, Damien and Mona followed. He would catch the others later, right now he had some business to take care of first before he could even think about resting at all.
“Damien,” Magnus spoke as he sat down in a chair that was behind one of the many desks he used throughout the mansion. “I have a job for you. . .” Magnus looked up and ran a hand through his dark black hair.
“I found out on my way back to Greyhawk that a lot of the merchants and traders are being attacked by bandits of orcs coming out of the Mistmarsh. I want you to go and talk to Dernan Nathane. He’s the guildmaster for the Union of Traders and Merchants. I want you to see what he knows. Normally I wouldn’t be too concerned, but information has passed by my way that says the attacks have been steadily increasing over the past month or so I want to know if it is anything to be concerned about.”
Magnus didn’t have to tell Damien or Celine what that would mean for Greyhawk’s economy if Merchants and Traders were no longer able to safely get into the city. Magnus looked up at Celine and smiled, “The Guild hall is in the old Thieves quarter so be careful.”

Magnus paused a moment, his eyes looked darker than normal and he paused as he rubbed his temples slightly. If he had been a normal ‘alive’ human being it would have looked as if he was fighting a headache.

Damien interjected with a nod.
“We’ll get right on that now sir.” He said looking over him “. . .You ok boss?”

Magnus looked up and smiled.
“Fine Damien thank you, I’m just tired that’s all, it’s been a long journey and it’s starting to take its toll.”

Damien nodded and headed for the door,
“get some rest, we survived for a long time, we’ll be alright for another day or so while you recuperate”

Magnus’s eyes turned from Damien to Mona and he put his hand up, He paused as he watched Damien head for the door.
“Mona,” he said softly “I want you to stay for a moment. I want a word with you.”

Celine noted the tired look but did not seem too worried he is just tired, get a days rest and he will be bouncing about all over the place.

She spoke up "do you want us to head out there, the Mistmarsh I mean. Just for reconnaissance purposes", she knew what he would say but the direct information would serve him better then hearsay or speculation.

Once she had her answer she left with Damien, once out of ear shot she voiced her concern

Results (Celine, Sense motive): You can obviously see that Magnus is anything BUT fine. He doesn’t just need rest, something is really wrong and he is definitely lying about it.

Magnus thought for a moment then nodded his head.
“See what he has to say, if you and Damien think it’s necessary then head out there for recon and come back. Just stay out of trouble.”
Magnus rubbed his temples again and looked up.
“Use your best judgment on the matter. Just don’t do anything stupid.”

Damien smiled and reached for the door knob,
“US???” he said trying to feign innocence “NEVER!”
He gave Magus a wink and walked out the door.

Magnus nodded and chuckled
“Yea, that’s what I’m afraid of. . .”

Celine gave a weak smile and followed Damien, "listen Damien somethings wrong with Magnus, he is ill or something and he is lying about it".

She told him to get his things for the trip and she would meet him in the reception area by the main doors, she quickly headed to her room and grabbed her things then came back to the study so she could get in there to speak with him.

At Magnus' word, Mona sat down and waiting for what he wanted to say. When Magnus rubbed his temples, Mona looked concerned and she looked to her father then back at Magnus. She moved her chair as close to Magnus as she could and took his hand, "Magnus, are you alright? What's wrong?" Maybe he was just tired, but he is a vampire and she didn't think they got tired or a headache for that matter. She looked at Magnus with eyes that said Please don't lie to me.

Crunerios looked up and walked over to the door preparing to exit the room and leave his daughter in the capable hands of Magnus. He could see from the look on his daughters face that she didn’t believe Magnus when he said he was fine.
“I’d answer her honestly Magnus. . .” he said quietly “. . .she’ll keep after you until you do.”
Crunerios took a deep breath as he too reached for the door knob,

Magnus looked up with a slightly confused expression on his face,
“What do you mean?” he said flatly glaring at Crunerios.

Crunerios laughed as he walked out,
“For being Seven Thousand years old, its amazing to me how you can miss something right in front of you.”
He continued to laugh as he walked out the door, closing it behind him.,
“But then when it comes to matters like women, you never were the sharpest knife in the drawer.”

Magnus watched as the door closed and bit his bottom lip,
“That was damn odd. . .” he said with a confused expression “. . .what the hell did THAT mean?”

Mona chuckled and blushed, holding Magnus' hand tighter. "It means that daddy knows I see you now as more than a friend, Magnus." She bites on her lower lip, looking away for a moment, then looks again in his eyes, "I care deeply for you, Magnus. Not as an Uncle, or even a close friend, but..." she just couldn't bring herself to finish, not being sure of how he felt about her. Does he love me? What if he laughs? What if he doesn't want my attentions? Her heart beat rapidly hoping he understood what she was trying to say.

Magnus eyes widened when he finally got the hint, there was a stunned moment of silence where for his age he genuinely had no idea what to do or what to say. In all honesty he figured while he was gone, she would have found some, he never thought,. . .

Magnus could hear her heart beating through her chest, pumping that life giving blood through her body. He smiled slightly when he realized it meant she was as nervous in this moment as he was.

Magnus shook the thought from his mind, here she was bearing her soul to him, and he honestly had no idea what to say think or do. His old Master used to tell him that despite the fact he was now undead, he still needed to rely on his ‘gut’ instincts. That was something that Magnus wasn’t even sure he had anymore until that moment. And for all his worth, age and experience, (not to mention better judgment) his gut was telling him one thing. It was yelling at him. So he decided to listen to it for probably the first time in well over a few hundred years.

Magnus leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips, his cold hand cupping her face gently. He could feel the warmth of her skin, and he desperately enjoyed the touch. It wasn’t a forced passionate kiss, but a soft kiss on the lips, with its intention all to clear, and the smile on his all to plain. . .

Mona took a quick, deep breath as Magnus cradled her face and kissed her. She returned it, then blinked as he pulled away. Her smile outshown Magnus' and she leaned forward and give him one of her own kisses, this time wrapping her arms around him. She didn't care about him being a vampire; she didn't care that his kisses and body was cold; his touch set a fire off in her and now he was showing he cared for her as much as she did for him. The kiss lasted longer than was probably needed to show her affections, but she did finally break away and smiled at him. She cradled his face in hers, "Now, tell me, what is wrong? Vampires don't get tired or headaches. Why did you want me to stay? What do you need to tell me?" Her eyes danced as she looked into his, but they also showed a bit of concern for Magnus as well.

Magnus looked down and shook his head, he knew he wasn’t going to be able to hide the truth for to much longer and he really was going to have to say something eventually. Mona would be the first to know.
“Mona. . .” he said quietly “. . . you have to understand, I haven’t taken a drop of human blood in over two hundred years. I have tried my hardest to redeem myself for the horrible crimes of my past. In doing that I swore off of human blood. I survive on animal blood, its what keeps me going. Very few people even know. Damien, your father and now you, you are the only ones who know.”
Magnus shifted slightly and then stared at her,
“It’s taking its toll, as a vampire I was never meant to survive on animal blood, I’m not wired that way.” Magnus actually swallowed hard,
“Mona, it’s because of that. . .” He knew he was beating around the bush more than he had to. “. . .Mona, I’m dying.”

"No!" Mona whispered. Her eyes filled with tears and before she knew what she was saying, she said, "Take mine. I willingly offer myself to you. You can't die. Too many people are depending on you. I love you. Please." She took his hand and her eyes held firm and steady with her resolve. Her heart beat quickly, but her voice was calm and her eyes showed no fear.

Magnus smiled and took her hand, “First of all, I never really thought I would learn to care or love anyone ever again. I love you too.”
He shook his head, “Second, I love you too much to do that to you. I swore a long time ago I wouldn’t ever do that again.”
Finally he shrugged, “. . . And third” he said flatly “. . . I’m not sure you would like what would happen if I did. The person you see now, the person I am would change into the same blood thirsty monster that committed those crimes so long ago. I would undo everything I have fought to change.” Magnus shook his head. “No, I can’t go down that road, I won’t.”
He smiled and kissed her lightly, “Besides I am not dead yet. I still have a little time you know.” He gave her a wink and nodded.
“I love you too kitten”

"But there must be something we can do! You used to be that way, yes, but you swore off human blood and became good. I don't understand if you take blood from someone who was willing, why you can't still be good. You did it once, you can do it again." Mona was getting frantic now and a bit angry. After all, it wasn't fair that she would find someone to love only to have them die...not today, or yesterday, but ... She tried to calm down, "How long do you think you have?" She swallowed, "Are we talking over my lifetime? Over several human life-times?" Her tears were beginning to fall despite her heroic effort to hold them back.

Magnus paused it was the inevitable question he knew was coming.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered softly “I did not return because I was finished with what I had to do.” He looked at her and shook his head. He knew the time frame all to well. Not because he had foresight, but because he could feel it. He could feel himself slowing down, becoming more drained and more tired more easily.
“I came home to get my affairs in order. I came home because I need to make sure that the estate and the circle and everything is passed onto your father and you.”
Magnus shook slightly, death or whatever it was he was going through wasn’t something he was accustomed to thinking about. In Seven Thousand years he never had too.
“Six months, maybe seven tops.” He said finally. Magnus cupped her face in his hands and smiled. “Mona, please try to understand, I haven’t given up yet. I have survived much worse than this.”
That was an outright lie and he knew it. It wasn’t something he was prepared to admit though, even to himself.
